What did we do?
Restructuring
After more than six years with a successful Portal in production, Winsports made a change to its business model by creating a second channel (Winsports+), focused on a subscription payment system.
Hand in hand with this change, a project was designed for a complete change of the portal’s strategy. To do this, Link led a first consulting process to address such a demanding challenge.
First and foremost, A baseline analysis was carried out to understand success cases and opportunities for improvement. These included issues of user experience, search engine optimization (SEO) and infrastructure.
Along the same lines, a benchmark was carried out, aimed at comprehensively understanding the best practices of sports portals in the world.
Finally, this consulting phase allowed for the reorganization of the content strategy, thinking about the migration of the high volume of information for a better user experience.
Hence, different iterations and prototype tests were carried out before starting development.
Not adaptive: mobile.
One of the most important decisions was not to make a Portal that was "adaptable" to mobile devices, but two versions (desktop and mobile) that considered one reality; users navigate differently, depending on the device from where they connect.
The development
For development, the decision to carry out the implementation on Drupal was upheld, performing a migration from version 7 to 8. In addition to the natural parameterization and implementation processes, integrations were made with statistics providers (Opta), ADs Managers, and Instant Articles, among others.
During the last months of the project, optimization of the Portal was carried out to achieve the best indicators of speed, performance, best practices, accessibility and SEO.
Link also provides infrastructure management to guarantee the best response times for users, especially during the broadcast of soccer matches, providing a first-class experience on the so-called "second screen".
